Good Morning: ..just curious: anybody else out there have a list of tunes they wish the band had played more often? I call them my "unsung hero's;" here's a sample (in no particular order):

1.) You Win Again
2.) Built To Last
3.) If I Had The World To Give
4.) Green Green Grass
5.) He Was A Friend
6.) Mountains On The Moon

I hope you all enjoy your day,
--- AshesRising

PS: ...as always, any sweet recs of the above tunes will be a huge bonus and gratefully appreciated.

Lots of good replies.... most the songs i woulda picked are already up here ... St.Stephen - Mission - Cosmic - lots of good picks. I think i would throw in mebbe Visions, Full Dark Stars, and Blues For Allah. I would have also loved to have seen Terrapin pt.II put to music and made into a song. I guess at least we got the last line in Corrina=/

I would have liked to have seen more Visions of Johanna.

I also agree with Mason's and Golden Road!

Must Have Been The Roses - I saw them 50-odd times between 79 and 83, maybe a dozen times between 84 and 89, and I never heard that song live once.

I just wish they hadn't left it too late to play Unbroken Chain - if they'd done it in 76/77 when they were at the top of their game it could have been magnificent.

Best to you, AshesR.

Hey Ashes, I can't really answer your question but it would probably be something from early like Sittin' on top of the World or New Speedway Boogie, the other stuff is Silver Threads and Golden Needles or Green Green Grass.

But Check this out, start with 'Old, Old House' (opening of Late show):

china doll
pride of cucamonga

it would have been good if they had continued to interpret contempary songs through there career more. silver needles, green green grass dancin' in the streets all more of less current when they covered them...

You know what i mean. Where were the modern songs?

dilcurrie: ...thank you for taking the time to respond; those are both monster tunes ...I am fortunate to have witnessed "China Doll" on many occassions -- in particular, 1985-03-31 [Portland, ME] with Jerry solo jams that I highly recommend [both pre- and post-drums]. The Jerry Band's production of contemporary tunes is rather stunning. Thanks again for your post, --- AshesRising

I like http://www.archive.org/details/gd85-06-14.sbd.carman.13747.sbeok.shnf better but can't deny the attraction of your more disjointed 3-31.

There's Jerry with tasty jam before drums & space in contrast to 6-14 and others that featured Brent in the Jerry balaphon/drum thing.

Hello there,

no problem responding to your post. It got me thinking. 'd agree the Jerry Garcia Band did do some great covers, and I suppose that with such a wealth of material not only in their repetoire, but also in the great american songbook, there was always going to be loads of material.

Only got to see them in London in 1990, though I'll never forget the shows.

I can still remember the goosebumps when they took the stage for the first night...

stay frosty,

I too wish they had played Mountains of the Moon more often. For a good version of that check out 4/5/69 at the Avalon. http://www.archive.org/details/gd69-04-05.sbd.miller.18701.sbesok.shnf
I also wish that Viola Lee Blues had stayed around longer, nothing else got quite as hot or changed tempos quite as fast.

It took me a little while to track this down, but just in case you weren't onto it, they played part of it once. I agree it would have it been cool if they'd busted it out once in a while: http://www.archive.org/details/gd77-03-18.sbd.unknown.254.sbeok.shnf
